RE (Religious Education)

At Ravensthorpe CE (VC) Junior School, we embrace the diversity and multi-faith aspects of our local community which are represented within our school. Following the Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds syllabus, we learn about religions and non-religious world views in a local, national and global context. The RE curriculum prepares our pupils for their entrance into the wider world as they grow and flourish as individuals. Across the school, we teach Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, all of which are revisited and embedded as our pupils journey through school. We motivate our pupils to draw links between different faiths through our Christian values and we also encourage them to use these values in everyday life. We reflect on the Christian Values through our worship, during which we introduce various 'big questions' which allow the children to reflect and discuss religious, ethical and world issues, for example, 'Is it ever okay to lie?'

We have close links to our local Church. In Year 5, our pupils visit the church, with Father George also supporting our worship and festival celebrations. Our pupils leave Year 6 as young adults who have developed a respectful, tolerant and empathetic attitude towards a variety of faiths, including their own.
