School Council
Our School Council members are responsible for giving all pupils a voice and leading our school forward, making it the best school it can be. We believe in actively working to make the world a better place.
Our new Council members were elected by their peers based on their pledge towards school improvement. They wrote an application form and delivered a speech to their class who then voted for them.
As a team we meet regularly to make important decisions about key issues in school, the local community and the wider world. We are responsible for gathering the views of our peers as well as suggesting brilliant ideas of our own and making sure they come to fruition.
Our School Council visited Diamond Wood Community Academy to talk to their Year 2 Pupil Leadership team.
They had prepared questions to ask our School Council about life at our school. They asked some really interesting questions about our teachers, our lessons, playtimes, food, sports and Star of the Week. The Year 2 children said they weren’t really worried or nervous about coming to the Junior school, but they are very excited!
Our School Council had brainstormed ideas of excellent things to tell the children. We told them all about TT Rock Stars, our excellent topics and extra-curricular activities we do, the work Mrs Horne and Miss Jiva do, Accelerated reader and all our reading activities (we were showing off how many words our School Council members had read), 5 for 5 and our attendance rewards, the lunchtime zones and the fun we have at playtimes and our different School Councils.
We are very proud of our School Council. They were very sensible and did a really amazing job talking to the Year 2 children. Well done!
We raised a total of £252.27 selling our healthy playtime snacks. Our Councillors worked really well as a team. The money will be used to buy toys for Dewsbury and District Hospital’s Children’s A&E department. On Monday 22nd June we worked together, researching what we could buy within our budget.
Our School Council met with My Hospitals Charity representative Bradley and took the toys we bought with the money we raised and delivered them to the children’s A&E department at Dewsbury District Hospital. Bradley also took us on a tour to the hospital’s community wellbeing garden which the charity has recently renovated. We hope the toys and games will come to good use!
