Our Year 5 students recently stepped back in time to explore the heritage of Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, through an immersive local history project. We turned into detectives to investigate how our local community has transformed over the past century. To capture their discoveries, the children combined geography, art and creative writing to bring the past to life.
The students showed their learning by creating story maps that traced the evolution of local streets, producing drawings of how our local area has changed and penning and decorating moving poems reflecting the lives of past residents. We are absolutely thrilled to share that their incredible work was recently chosen to be displayed in Huddersfield Town Hall. Even more excitingly, there are talks for these student creations to feature as part of a local exhibition at the brand-new Kirklees Museum and Art Gallery which is currently being built. This project has beautifully connected our students to their roots and we are incredibly proud to see their hard work recognised in such a way.
